Thank you Planet Synovate!
The Arts Council was pleased to partner with Synovate, a global market research company with offices in 51 countries, during their 2008 convention held in New Orleans in late April. Known as the most curious company in the world, Synovate’s interest in our local New Orleans artists did not disappoint!

Forty visual artists were commissioned to produce an artwork expressing the theme “My New Orleans” prior to the convention.  More than 550 delegates attending the conference were split into small groups and matched with one of the artists.  The groups had no idea what the project ahead of them would be when they arrived in New Orleans.  They were surprised to be broken into groups and bused to visit individual artists in their studios!  The on-the-spot challenge was to create an artist profile based on the artist’s work.  The visit culminated with the unveiling of the artwork commissioned by Synovate. Ranging from blown glass to encaustic to plaster, the artists’ creations wowed the conference delegates with their originality and beauty.  These pieces were displayed the following evening at the conference’s closing dinner, where everyone had the chance to read the artist’s profiles and enjoy the artwork by all 40 artists who were invited to attend.

A good time was had by all! Both the artists and delegates expressed how thankful they were for the opportunity to connect on a personal level with each other. “My group of delegates were such interesting, lovely people; they felt like family. I feel very fortunate to have met them and really loved hosting them in my studio. What an incredible experience!” said artist Joan DaGradi.

The opportunity for the artists to share their work with an international group of visitors while getting the benefit of their marketing expertise was also outstanding.  Frahn Koerner said, “I loved it, because people from out of town found out about what I do, they gave me money, but I also will be having my work hang somewhere outside of New Orleans for all to see. So bravo on all counts.”

And it doesn’t stop there!
Now that the event is complete, the artwork will be auctioned off with the proceeds returning to the artists and the Arts Council of New Orleans.  The EBay Auction will begin May 23rd, for more information on the artists who participated and the artwork for sale please visit the Synovate auction site!
