Multiple Locaitons: City Park and Loyola University
Artist's Statement:
The most haunting of lingering post-Katrina images are the barren steps where homes once stood. These naked steps now stand as sacred tombstones in an altered landscape. DeDeaux's series STePs HoME offer an illuminated interpretation in sculptural form to pay tribute to the Katrina experience and the rebirth of New Orleans. STePs HoME are both solemn markers of loss and radiant beacons of hope illuminating the path back home.
STePs HoME will be installed throughout the city for a two year period and then gathered together in a final resting site to form an outdoor Katrina memorial amphitheater.
