This workshop provides dance, theater, performance and time-based visual artists the opportunity to improve the documentation and preservation of their work. The workshop includes discussions of best practices for different types of documentation, how to make a strategic plan, and how to budget for the documentation process. Artists will learn techniques they can use themselves, or discuss with editors and videographers to create high-quality performance documentation for use in personal archives, work samples, marketing campaigns and beyond.
Key Skills Participants Learn: • How to create and execute a strategic plan for effective performance documentation • Best practices for capturing performance documentation • Strategies for working with professional videographers and/or creating your own performance documentation • Why and how to create a budget for performance documentation
Participants Leave the Workshop With: • New perspectives on how to approach presenting your work for promotion, archiving, fundraising, and beyond • Practical strategies and information to help realize your performance documentation goals • A cohort of peer artists in the community (participants and leaders) who can act as resources • A copy of the Performance Documentation Guide, which includes exercises and examples for performance documentation production, planning, budgets, release forms and more.
